DOH lists 464 virus cases in QC, but City Hall says it's 174

By Chito Chavez Records from the Department of Health (DOH) revealed that the number of confirmed positive coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) cases in Quezon City jumped to 464 as of 1 p.m. of April 2. This DOH figure is in stark contrast to the current 174 validated COVID-19 cases of the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (QCESU). The Quezon City Health Department (QCHD) attributed the sudden rise of COVID-19 cases in the locality to the database access provided by the DOH to local health officials. As the extreme upswing in the number of COVID-19 cases triggered alarm, the QCHD clarified that the raw data from the DOH is “still subject to the validation’’ of the QCESU, health center officers and barangay officials. The QCHD explained that the validation is vital as this will ensure that the patients are actual Quezon City residents with corrections being made if needed as the city carefully verifies each case. Based on DOH records, the total number of cases with complete addresses in Quezon City now stands at 310. The additional cases with complete addresses and are still subject for validation are from the following barangays: District 1: Bahay Toro, 1; Del Monte, 3; Lourdes, 2; Maharlika, 1; Manresa, 2; Mariblo, 1; Paltok, 2; Phil-am, 1; Ramon Magsaysay, 2; Sta. COVID-19 deaths and recoveries in QC: As of 1 p.m. of April 2, the Quezon City government reported six new COVID-19 deaths bringing the number to 33 fatalities while three new recoveries were disclosed raising the total to 14. Extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ) The Quezon City government as repeatedly explained by Mayor Joy Belmonte will enforce the EECQ in barangays with two or more confirmed cases and in different streets and/or in congested urban poor areas where fast transmission is most likely. However, this is subject to the daily review depending on the number of cases / recoveries. The newly reported barangays with two cases have not yet been included in the list as they are still undergoing validation. As of 7 p.m. of April 2, the Quezon City government is implementing the EECQ in the following barangays: Tandang Sora, Kalusugan, Ramon Magsaysay, Maharlika, Tatalon, Batasan Hills, Pasong Tamo, Central, San Roque, Paligsahan, Bagong Lipunan ng Crame, South Triangle, Culiat, Bahay Toro, E. Rodriguez, San Isidro Labrador, Matandang Balara and Teachers Village West Decontamination efforts The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and the Quezon City Fire Department (QCFD) have continuously disinfected the city’s streets and highways. As of April 1, 2020, 496 locations in the city’s 142 barangays were disinfected as part of the continuous simultaneous decontamination operations.
