DOH confirms 16K new COVID-19 cases, death toll exceeds 37K

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 16,361 more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Tuesday, Sept. 21, while the death toll already surpassed the 37,000-mark.

The DOH noted that four laboratories "were not able" to submit their data to the DOH system on time. Their data are not yet included in the latest tally.

Since last year, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines rose to 2,401,916, of which, 171,142 or 7.1 percent are still being treated.

Ninety-two percent of the active cases exhibit mild symptoms, 2.8 percent are asymptomatic, 0.6 percent are in critical condition, 1.4 percent are in severe state, while 2.69 percent are in moderate condition.

The DOH also logged 140 new deaths, wherein 60 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were later on verified as deaths.

The newly recorded deaths pushed the total fatalities to 37,074 or 1.54 percent of the overall case count.

Meanwhile, the recovery count increased by 21,974 to 2,193,700 or 91.3 percent of the case tally.
