DOH: 27 new COVID-19 cases in QC

By Chito Chavez From the previous 1,312 COVID-19 cases in Quezon City (QC), the number surged to 1,339 for an increase of 27 as of 7p.m. of May 4, the Department of Health (DOH) reported. Like in the past turnouts, the number of validated cases by the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (QCESU) and District Health Offices differed with the DOH tally at 1,054, 60 more than the previous 994 during the same period. The Quezon City Health Department (QCHD) reported that the number of confirmed cases with complete addresses in Quezon City is now at 1,191 up by 39 from the previous 1,152. In the same QCHD report, the active COVID-19 cases in the city, pertaining to those who have not fully recovered, is now 658, 35 more than the previous 623. COVID-19 recoveries and deaths As of 7 p.m. of May 4, Quezon City had six new recoveries bringing its total to 264, while the number of deaths rose to 132 after three new deaths were recorded. The QCESU has not yet submitted its report on the number of COVID-19 cases per barangay as of this writing. Extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ) Mayor Joy Belmonte said the city government implements the EECQ in barangays with two or more confirmed COVID-19 cases and in various streets and/or in congested urban poor areas where fast transmission is most likely to occur. However, Belmonte said this will still be subjected to daily review depending on the number of cases/recoveries. She noted the newly reported barangays with two cases have not yet been included in the list as they are still subjected to validation. As of 7 p.m. of May 4, the Quezon City government has implemented EECQ in the following barangays: Tandang Sora, Kalusugan, Ramon Magsaysay, Maharlika, Tatalon, Batasan Hills, Pasong Tamo, Central, San Roque, Paligsahan, Bagong Lipunan ng Crame, South Triangle, Culiat, Bahay Toro, E. Rodriguez, San Isidro Labrador, Matandang Balara, Teachers Village West, Manresa, Paltok, Sto. Domingo, Bagong Silangan, Holy Spirit, Payatas, Marilag, Socorro, Kamuning, Pinyahan, San Isidro Galas, Commonwealth, Pansol, North Fairview, Novaliches Proper, and New Era. Hope 1 facility As of May 4, Hope 1 has eight available rooms for COVID-19 confirmed and suspected patients. At present, 26 confirmed COVID-19 patients and seven suspected COVID-19 patients are confined in the facility. Hope 2 facility In the same period, 109 COVID-19 confirmed and suspected patients were confined in the facility, with 175 beds still available. Those who have been tested at the city’s community-based testing center are brought to this facility for self-isolation while waiting for their results. Social Amelioration Program (SAP) The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), assisted by the city government, has started distributing the financial support under the social amelioration program (SAP) to qualified beneficiaries. The following barangays are scheduled to receive their payouts on May 5: District 1: Alicia, Bungad, Katipunan, Lourdes, Mariblo, Nayong Kaunlaran, NS Amoranto, Pag-ibig sa Nayon, Paltok, Philam, San Jose, Siena, St. Peter, Talayan, Vasra, Veterans Village, and West Triangle. District 3: Bagumbayan, Blue Ridge A, E. Rodriguez, Marilag, Matandang Balara (partial), Milagrosa, Pansol (partial), Quirino 2A, Quirino 2B, Quirino 2C, San Roque, Silangan, St. Ignatius, and White Plains. District 4: Bagong Lipunan ng Crame, Botocan, Don Manuel, Dona Imelda, Laging Handa, Malaya, Paligsahan, Pinagkaisahan, Pinyahan, Roxas, San Isidro Galas, San Martin De Porres, Sto. Nino, and Tatalon (partial). Belmonte said that residents are welcome to raise their concerns regarding the subsidy to the city government through its email address: [email protected]. Community-based testing service On May 4, the QC local government opened additional testing centers in District 1 and 2 located at Esteban Abada Elementary School and Batasan Hills National High School, respectively. On May 4, a total of 202 tests were conducted in the community-based testing centers and local government hospitals and by the QCESU. Of the 202 tests, 8 were done in Quezon City General Hospital, 4 in Rosario Maclang Bautista General Hospital, 11 at QC Experience, 78 at SB Park Novaliches, 83 at the Asian Institute of Tourism, 6 at Esteban Abada Elementary School, and 12 at Batasan National High School. The testing center at Old Balara Covered Court will resume its operations on Tuesday (May 5).
