Did you know that retired Comelec Commissioner Guanzon is a nominee for a deputy Ombudsman post?

Retired Commissioner Rowena V. Guanzon of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is a nominee for the post of deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas.
Her nomination was contained in the shortlist submitted to President Duterte by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) last Dec. 17 and received by the Office of the Executive Secretary on the same day.
Commissioner Guanzon’s name is listed in the JBC shortlist as Ma. Rowena Amelia Villena Guanzon.
Along with two others – Beda Angeles Epres and Dante Flores Vargas – Guanzon was nominated to replace then Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas Paul Elmer M. Clemente whose term of office ended on Nov. 6, 2021.
Listed in the Office of the Ombudsman’s (OMB) website as officer-in-charge of its Visayas’ office is Carla Juris Narvios Tanco.
As of Wednesday morning, Feb. 2, there has been no report that the President has appointed Clemente’s replacement in the OMB for the Visayas.
Guazon finished her term of office at the Comelec today, Feb.2, and is now retired from the poll body.
Before his retirement, however, she was in the limelight as she was reportedly pressuring her co-commissioners to resolve and release immediately the poll body’s ruling on the disqualification case of presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
It was also reported that she even released her opinion on Marcos’ disqualification ahead of the decision of the Comelec division to which the case were assigned for resolution.
Several lawyers and advocacy groups claimed Guanzon’s release of her opinion was premature and was reportedly intended to pressure other members of the Comelec.
