The number of displaced workers in the Philippines due to the coronavirus pandemic continued to climb, bringing the total to 2.76 million workers, the latest data from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) showed.

According to the DOLE’s Bureau of Local Employment, the affected workers were employed in 102,607 establishments nationwide.
The latest figure included the temporary closure of 80,891 establishments with 1.93 million workers, as of Saturday, May 23, 2020.
These workers have been adversely affected by the different forms of community quarantine imposed by the government due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The same BLE data also showed that 23,488 establishments with 949,873 workers had
adopted the flexible working arrangements.
”About 1,772 establishments adopted both FWAs and TC involving about 119,000 workers,” it said.
The National Capital Region, where a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) is in effect until May 31, has the highest number of displaced workers with 896,020.
This was followed by Central Luzon, 295,458; CALABARZON, 286,630;Central Visayas, 209,033; Davao Region, 205,380; Northern Mindanao, 181,523; and Zamboanga Peninsula, 121,786.
The others are Cagayan Valley, 90,983; MIMAROPA, 88,474; Bicol Region, 79,564; Western Visayas, 73,525; and Cordillera Administrative Region, 68,210.
The regions with the least number of displaced workers are Eastern Visayas, 54,592; Caraga, 46,779; Ilocos Region, 32,020; and SOCCSKSARGEN, 27,663.
Among the affected industries are wholesale and retail, accommodation and food service, manufacturing, construction, education, financial and insurance activities administrative and support service, and transportation and storage.
