Diocese of Tarlac announces resumption of public masses

With the modified general community quarantine now in effect in Tarlac province, parishes under the Diocese of Tarlac may now resume public masses starting July 1.

"Due to the pronouncement of the civil authorities that the Province of Tarlac is now under the status of Modified General Community Quarantine (GCQ), parishes and chapels in the Diocese of Tarlac may resume public worship or masses with congregation beginning on Wednesday, July 1, 2020," Tarlac Bishop Enrique Macaraeg said in a circular letter dated June 30.

The prelate reminded his priests to follow the directives of the civil authorities who at this time" is permitting an attendance in masses within 50 percent of the seating capacity of the church or chapel."

Macaraeg said all persons attending the masses should also be reminded to wear face masks, practice social distancing and sanitize hands when entering the church.

He, however, encouraged children, seniors and those who are vulnerable because they have health issues to stay home.

"The general dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass remains in effect in the Diocese of Tarlac until further notice," said Macaraeg.

He added that parishes will also continue to livestream the masses for the faithful.

Dioceses suspended the public celebration of masses last March due to the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
