With some village officials failing to fully enforce quarantine protocols, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary and spokesperson Jonathan Malaya stressed the critical role of the barangays to combat the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

(DILG 10 via PIA / MANILA BULLETIN) He emphasized this after 29 Metro Manila barangay captains were issued show cause orders for their negligence and laxity in enforcing the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) regulations. The barangays issued with show cause orders are Barangays 11, 12, 20, 154, 220, 350, and 212 in Manila; Barangays Bagong Silangan, 178, 12, 176, 37, and 129 in Caloocan; Barangays Pasong Putik, Pasong Tamo, San Bartolome, Batasan Hills, Payatas, Fairview, Novaliches Proper, and San Antonio in Quezon City; Barangays Don Bosco, Moonwalk, and Marcela Green in Parañaque; Barangays Pio Del Pilar and Bangkal in Makati; Barangays Almanza 2 in Las Piñas; Barangay Tonsuya in Malabon; and Barangay Alabang in Muntinlupa.
