DILG threatens sanctions vs local officials who fail to distribute aid on time

By Chito Chavez The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said on Thursday that sanctions await errant local officials who fail to deliver the subsidy under the national government’s social amelioration program (SAP) to their beneficiaries without any justifiable reason on or before the April 30 deadline. He said the DILG also wants to know what are the reasons for the delay in the distribution of the cash aid. He noted that the delays may be beyond their control but warned that negligent local officials will be charged with administrative cases. In the past, Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco has already informed the DILG that they will have a hard time meeting the deadline. Earlier, Malaya said other qualified families who were not included in the list of the initial beneficiaries will get aid in the second batch of distribution. He said a list was already submitted to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD noting that DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista said they are looking for funds for this purpose. In a text message, Malaya said that later today details of the DSWD subsidy will be announced by Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque in a press briefing. He noted that the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) will make an announcement in the Palace since the President promised to include the qualified beneficiaries left-out from the first batch to the next list. The DILG said the necessary adjustments will be made to expedite the distribution of the subsidy in the next batch.
