DILG expresses likelihood that Metro Manila may 'graduate to GCQ' after May 15

(PCOO / MANILA BULLETIN) DILG Undersecretary and spokesperson Jonathan Malaya, in an interview over GMA, said that the lifting of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) is being considered after the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) took into consideration the critical care infrastructure of hospitals and the case doubling time in Metro Manila. He noted that the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) record in Metro Manila could be the deciding factor that would relax the ECQ in the region. “By all indications, it looks like Metro Manila will 'graduate to GCQ' by May 15,” Malaya said. Malaya, however, said that some areas in Quezon City will remain under ECQ due to the high number of COVID-19 cases. As of May 4, the number of COVID-19 cases in the country breached the 9,000 mark as the Department of Health (DOH) reported 295 new cases, raising the tally to 9,223. Of the total cases in the country, the DOH–NCR said 5,144 came from Metro Manila, with Quezon City recording the most number at 1,312. Barangay Batasan Hills has the most number of COVID-19 cases in Quezon City with 31, followed by Barangay Matandang Balara with 26, according to a report from the Quezon City Health Department (QCHD).
