DFA reports 94 new COVID-19 cases, 34 new deaths among Filipinos overseas

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections among Filipinos abroad have increased significantly with the addition of 94 new confirmed cases and 34 new deaths, the latest tally released by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday (May 25) showed.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos to 2,617, with 889 recoveries, 1,400 live cases or persons still undergoing treatment, and 328 deaths.
Aside from the new confirmed cases and new deaths, there were also 10 new recoveries recorded in Europe and the Middle East.
“Based on the latest figures, the DFA confirms that Europe and the Middle East still have the highest number of COVID-19 positive Filipinos, Asia and the Pacific has the fewest number of cases, while the Americas still has the highest number of fatalities,” the foreign affairs office said.
Overall by region, Europe has a total of 791 confirmed cases, the Middle East and Africa 735, the Americas 632, and Asia Pacific 459.
Earlier on Monday, the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur confirmed that they are still monitoring 115 cases of COVID-19-positive Filipinos
Ambassador Charles Jose said 98 have been released from the hospital while the remaining 17 are still undergoing treatment in the Malaysian capital.
The majority of infected Filipinos in Malaysia were linked to a Muslim religious gathering called “tabligh” held last February 27 to March 1 at the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.
