DFA reports 88 new cases among Filipinos abroad, highest daily surge so far

By Roy Mabasa The Philippine government on Friday recorded the highest daily increase of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad since the end of March with 88 new cases, bringing the total of affected nationals to 837 worldwide. Department of Foreign Affairs (MANILA BULLETIN) Department of Foreign Affairs (MANILA BULLETIN) As of April 17, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) also reported three new deaths and eight new recoveries in the regions of the Americas and the Middle East. Out of the 837 total confirmed cases, 483 Filipinos are undergoing treatment, 248 have recovered, and 106 died in the pandemic. All the confirmed cases are monitored from 41 different countries and regions worldwide through the various embassies, consulates, and other Philippine foreign missions. Due to the increasing number of nationals with COVID-19, the DFA rallied Filipinos abroad to support and cooperate with the preventive measures and restrictions imposed by health authorities in the countries or localities where they are located. Further, those who wish to be repatriated are advised to immediately coordinate with their nearest Philippine embassy or consulate.
