The Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday reported 56 new confirmed COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019), 23 deaths, and five new recoveries among Filipinos abroad.
The latest DFA figures sent the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases spiraling to 8,417, as of June 26, 2020. Of the total, 5,081 have recovered, 2,800 are live cases and 536 have succumbed to the disease.
Also today, the DFA received a new report from a country in Africa, which brings the total number of countries/regions with COVID cases among Filipinos to 57.
The new confirmed cases were recorded mostly in the Middle East and Africa while the new deaths were from various countries in the Middle East.
“Given these developments, the DFA assures its steadfast commitment to monitoring the status of our people abroad and effectively facilitating and coordinating the safe repatriation of our nationals affected by this pandemic,” the foreign affairs office said in a statement.
Earlier, the Philippine Embassy in Egypt reported only one confirmed live COVID-19 case of a female Filipino worker in that country.
In Sudan, the Philippine Embassy said they are awaiting the autopsy report of a Filipino who died recently to determine if the cause of death is related to the pandemic.
