DFA reports 40 new COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos

By Roy Mabasa The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday reported 40 new cases of overseas Filipinos infected with COVID-19, including 10 new fatalities from the Americas and the Middle East. In a report, the DFA explained that the updated figures showed that the “total recoveries at 434 remain higher than the number of deaths at 199.” The number of live cases, or those Filipinos undergoing treatment in various hospitals and health facilities abroad, has breached the 1,000 mark, at 1,011. To date, the DFA said only 26 percent of the confirmed cases have been verified by the Department of Health through the National Focal Point (NFP) for International Health Regulations (IHR) due to some challenges in obtaining reports and verifications in other countries. Of the regions, the most number of overseas Filipinos confirmed to have COVID-19 is still in the Americas (468), followed by Europe (461), Asia and the Pacific (365), and the Middle East and Africa (350).
