DFA notes decline in COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos

By Roy Mabasa The number of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad that were reported today, April 8, 2020, is less compared to yesterday’s figures, the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a report on Wednesday. In its latest tally, the DFA monitored 25 new cases of Filipinos with confirmed COVID-19 cases, six new recoveries and three new deaths specifically in the regions of the Americas and Europe. These numbers of Filipinos afflicted with the coronavirus were monitored in at least 37 countries and regions worldwide. The overall number of overseas Filipinos afflicted with COVID-19 is now at 594 with 368 undergoing treatment, 164 recovered or discharged from various health facilities and 68 deaths. On Tuesday, the DFA noted a six percent increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad, most notably in the regions of the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and the Middle East and Africa. “The DFA remains committed in supporting global and national efforts against COVID-19 to assist our kababayan abroad,” it said.
