DFA: No report of new deaths from COVID-19 among overseas Filipinos

By Roy Mabasa For the first time in the past two weeks, no new deaths from COVID-19 were reported among Filipino nationals abroad, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Tuesday. Department of Foreign Affairs (MANILA BULLETIN) Department of Foreign Affairs (MANILA BULLETIN) The DFA also noted that the daily rate of new recoveries among overseas Filipinos is now higher than the new confirmed cases. “We carry the same hope of everyone for this trend to continue,” the DFA said, as it reported 48 new cases and 38 new recoveries from Europe and the Americas. As of May 5, the total number of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad is 1,867 with 1,140 still undergoing treatment, while 513 have recovered and 214 died of the disease. The cases were monitored and reported from at least 46 countries and regions worldwide. Meanwhile, the Philippine government has assisted in the repatriation of 24,442 Filipinos as of May 2, prior to the closure of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport to all inbound commercial flights. Nearly 17,000 were seafarers while 7,486 were land-based workers.
