The number of Filipinos outside of the Philippines who have tested positive for COVID-19 has surged to 172, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in its latest tally released on Wednesday.
Department of Foreign Affairs (MANILA BULLETIN)
About 80 of these Filipino COVID-19 patients are currently undergoing treatment in various hospitals and health facilities in 25 different countries and regions.
Two of the Filipino fatalities were from the Asia-Pacific Region and Europe.
In the latest tally dated March 25, the DFA released the following numbers of COVID-19 cases involving Filipinos by region: 112 in the Asia-Pacific Region, 22 in Europe, 20 in the Americas, and 18 in the Middle East.
Of the 172 patients, 90 have recovered or were already discharged.
The DFA said it is not inclined to reveal the specific countries where these Filipinos are located so as “not to negatively affect our nationals abroad.”
They added that they also need to address concerns regarding the sharing of information, particularly in some countries where identifying the nationalities of COVID-19 patients is prohibited.
