DFA: 2 recoveries, no new COVID-19 cases, deaths among Filipinos abroad

By Roy Mabasa  For the first time since the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) began issuing updates on overseas Filipinos affected by COVID-19, no new confirmed cases and fatalities were reported Sunday (May 10) from the various consulates and embassies worldwide. As of May 10, the total number of COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad is 2,178, with 253 fatalities. Of the total, 1,283 are live cases or patients that are undergoing treatment, while 642 have recovered or been discharged from various hospitals and health facilities abroad. Based on the latest figures, Europe still has the most number of COVID-19 cases among Filipino nationals with 651 cases, followed by the Middle East and Africa, 616; the Americas, 523; and the Asia Pacific Region, 388 cases. On May 16, the DFA, together with other government agencies, will resume the repatriation of about 40,000 displaced Filipinos from various parts of the world after the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced that incoming chartered and commercial flights will be allowed to land at the country’s premier airport only on assigned days.
