DepEd’s Education Cluster Report showed that as of Feb. 11 there are only 80,592 learners and 2,762 personnel affected by Taal’s unrest. The number of affected schools also went down to 119 in one affected division under Region IV-A.
As of Feb. 10, data showed there were 214,789 learners and 322 schools in seven divisions under Region IV-A remaining affected by Taal’s eruption, as well as 7,222 DepEd personnel.
Likewise, the number of schools and learners affected by the suspension of classes also decreased. Latest DepEd data showed there are only 91 schools where classes remain suspended, affecting 52,531 learners, compared to Feb. 10 data which showed that classes in 112 schools remain canceled, making 61,613 learners miss out on school. Classes in these schools were suspended since Jan. 13.
The number of public schools used as evacuation centers (ECs) was also trimmed down. To date, only schools in the Division of Batangas are used as ECs, wherein a total of 1,526 classrooms cater to 1,526 families or 4,742 individuals.
Compared to the Feb. 10 data which showed there are 10,466 learners staying in 223 public schools, DepEd data as of Feb. 11 showed that there are only 2,513 learners staying in 28 schools.
To date, DepEd has also tracked 536 displaced personnel in 272 ECs located in seven divisions under Region IV-A. Concerned regions and schools divisions continue to provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) to affected learners. Processing and downloading funds to be used by the affected schools are also ongoing.
Moving forward, DepEd will prepare back-to-school campaigns to encourage learners to resume their education and initiated clean-up and minor repairs in schools in areas where the lockdown has been lifted.
