DAVAO CITY - The number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Davao region has breached the 700-mark on Friday after 29 additional cases were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH).
Based on the Regional Situation Update on COVID-19, the DOH Davao Center for Health Development (DCHD) reported that 21 of the latest cases were from Davao City, four from Davao del Norte, two from Davao Oriental, and one each from Davao del Sur and Davao de Oro.
The total number of confirmed cases has already reached 718. The DOH said 251 of these were still active cases.
Meanwhile, the region also recorded its first death for the month of July after a patient from Davao City died Friday.
The total number of COVID-19 deaths is currently at 34. The last death was recorded on June 29.
The DOH said seven more patients have recovered successfully, bringing to 433 the total number of successful recoveries in Davao region.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Friday said the increasing number of cases can be attributed to the implementation of the general community quarantine (GCQ) and the entry of locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and returning overseas Filipino workers in the city.
The City has so far tallied a total of 537 cases, 153 of which are still active cases. The city also has 355 recoveries and 29 deaths, including the latest death recorded on Friday.
