Davao region records 17 new cases of COVID-19

DAVAO CITY - The Department of Health Davao Center for Health Development (DOH-DCHD) reported at least 17 additional cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection in Davao region.

Thirteen of the latest cases were from Davao de Oro, three from Davao del Norte, and one from Davao City.

The region has recorded a total of 773 confirmed cases, of which 281 are still active cases.

Out of the 13 new cases it has recorded, Davao de Oro also said that it now has its first two cases of COVID-19 acquired through local transmission. The provincial government said the two cases are from Maragusan and Monkayo towns.

Meanwhile, the Davao del Norte Provincial Health Office said it recorded four new cases, and not just three as reported by the DOH region.

Two of the new cases in Davao del Norte were returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), while the other two were locally stranded individuals (LSIs).

One of the OFWs was a 32-year-old man from New Corella, who arrived on July 1 and the other was a 24-year-old woman from Panabo City, who arrived last June 27.

The two LSIs were both women from the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS). One of them was 66 years old, who arrived last July 7 via a commercial flight, and the other was 37 years old who also arrived on July 7 by bus.

Aside from the new cases, the DOH Davao also recorded one recovery bringing the total number of successful recoveries to 457.
