Davao Gov downplays Sara's statement: 'She has desire to serve the people'

DAVAO CITY — Mayor Sara Z. Duterte’s supporter group Ituloy ang Pagbabago Movement (IPM) has downplayed her statement that she will not run as President in 2022.

In a statement, IPM convenor Davao Occidental Governor Claude Bautista said the deadline filling of certificate of candidacy is still far and anything can happen.

"I always believe in God’s will! What is important is that she has the desire to serve the people and everything will follow," Bautista said.

Bautista said they believe in the young Duterte’s leadership and has the ability to continue what her father started.

"I will always believe in her and I will always be her avid fan no matter what, now and forever," he said.

On Thursday, September 9, the mayor said in an interview with ABS-CBN she is not interested to run for a national position since her father President Rodrigo Duterte seems bent on gunning for the vice presidency.

“Yes, I am not running for a national position as we both agreed only one of us will run for a national position in 2022,” said Mayor Duterte in reaction to a text query from reporters.

On Wednesday, PDP-Laban proclaimed Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and President Duterte as its presidential and vice presidential bet for the 2022 national elections.

“It (nomination of the chief executive) does not affect any of my plans but as we both agreed only one from the family will run for a national position,” she stated.

Even before she could reveal her plans for the 2022 elections, the Davao City chief executive and the HNP already renewed alliances with several pro-administration parties, but not the PDP-Laban.

“No, I will not share my light this time,” the HNP chairperson said in a response to a query from the media on whether or not her father’s party can expect HNP’s help like it did during the 2019 senatorial race.
