DAVAO CITY – The City Government of Davao will sustain the enhanced community quarantine from April 26 until May 15 after the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) identified Davao City and Davao del Norte as high-risk areas in Mindanao, Mayor Sara Duterte said on Friday.
In her interview aired over Davao City Disaster Radio 87.5, Duterte said she would no longer push through with the modified community quarantine on Monday as the IATF-MEID recommended that all LGUs classified as high risk for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) be placed under the ECQ until May 15.
Duterte said on Thursday that once the MCQ takes effect, the suspension imposed on jeepneys and other public transport would be lifted while some offices would be allowed to reopen with a skeleton staff and shortened work hours and workweek.
She said the current guidelines on ECQ would be sustained, including, among others, suspension of mass transportation, retention of work-from-home arrangement, and use of the food and medicine pass.
Duterte, concurrent chair of the Davao Regional COVID-19 Task Force, said she was awaiting the decision of other governors in the Davao Region if they would extend the implementation of ECQ or push through with the MCQ starting April 27.
As of 8 a.m. of April 23, the city has 33 positive cases, 49 recoveries, and 18 deaths.
According IATF-MEID, considered high-risk in Luzon Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales, and Pampanga in Central; Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal and Quezon in Calabarzon; Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro comprise high-risk provinces in MIMAROPA; Albay and Catanduanes in Bicol; Benguet in Cordillera Administrative Region; and Pangasinan in Ilocos.
In the Visayas, Antique, Iloilo, Aklan and Capiz in Western Visayas; Cebu province and Cebu City in Central Visayas are high risk areas.
In Mindanao, Davao del Norte and Davao City are considered high-risk, while Davao de Oro (formerly Compostela Valley) is subject to ECQ and subject to re-evaluation.
The task force added low-risk to moderate-risk areas will be under general community quarantine starting May 1. But the general community quarantine will be further relaxed leading to normalization in low-risk areas if there situation continues to improve.
It said the Department of Health, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Trade and Industry, the Department of Labor and Employment, and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will prepare the guidelines by April 25.
