DAGUPAN CITY — This city has recorded its first coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) death on Sunday, April 5.
Mayor Brian Lim received a report from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) that a patient under investigation (PUI), who died three days ago, had tested positive for the coronavirus.
The patient, an 80-year-old male from Barangay Pogo Chico, was the sixth confirmed COVID-19 case, and the first to die of the disease in Dagupan City.
He was also one of the three PUIs, who died last week, before their test results could be released.
DCPUI2+ died while he was being treated at the Region 1 Medical Center on April 2, and was immediately cremated the following day.
Health officials noted that, DCPUI2+ had no travel history, but he was exposed to a person who had travelled to Metro Manila.
DCPUI2+ was suffering from diabetes mellitus.
Family members of DCPUI2+ were placed under strict home quarantine.
