COVID-19 ward at QCGH reaches full capacity

The local government-run Quezon City General Hospital (QCGH) has already reached full capacity in terms of accepting more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients.

According to its director, Dr. Josephine Sabando, the hospital’s COVID-19 ward has already exceeded a 100 percent occupancy rate since March 9.

In late December and early January, QCGH’s COVID-19 admission rate was only at 10 percent, the hospital director noted. But from March 9 to 12, its occupancy rate ranged from 106 to 137.5 percent.

However, Sabando clarified that QCGH will still admit walk-in non-COVID patients.

“And ipa-priority natin ay yung may mga urgent cases tulad ng (We will prioritize those urgent cases such as) trauma cases and cardiac emergencies,” she said.

“Sunod ay yung (Next to be prioritized will be) semi-urgent cases. Walk-in patients with non-urgent cases will still be given appropriate medical attention,” she added.

Next week, the Outpatient Department will also revert back to teleconsultation services and will ask patients who need face-to-face consultation to report at the OPD on their designated schedule.

QCGH also started fielding more doctors and nurses in the triage area and COVID-19 ward, which are enough to treat the increasing number of patients.

The hospital also revised the duties of the healthcare workers where they will be quarantined after a COVID-19-related assignment. The workers will also be subjected to RT-PCR test, especially those showing symptoms.
