The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday reported 120 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, bringing the total number to 10,463.
Health Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario S. Vergeire
(PCOO / MANILA BULLETIN) Based on the latest new cases, the DOH said 84 were recorded in the National Capital Region, 28 in Central Visayas, and eight more in other regions. Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the current positivity rate is at 10 percent. The DOH also announced 116 new recoveries among COVID-19 patients, bringing the total number to 1,734. “For patients who are in the hospital, it can take four to six weeks for them to get better and at the end of that, it takes another two weeks to say that they've really recovered,” infectious disease expert Dr. Edsel Salvana told reporters. Meanwhile, the COVID-19 has claimed 11 more lives, bringing the country’s death toll to 696. Vergeire said the country’s current case fatality rate is at 6.6 percent. As of May 7, the WHO reported that there have been 3,672,238 cases, including 254,045 deaths globally. Vergeire reiterated that the increasing number of confirmed cases is due to the continuous expansion of the country’s testing capacity. She reminded the public anew to follow the government's mitigation measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.
