COVID-19 cases surpass 76,000, reports DOH; UP experts predict more than 85,000 cases by end-July

The Department of Health (DOH) announced 2,103 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total number of infections nationwide to over 76,000.

The country’s total number of cases is now at 76,444, barely a week left before this month ends. Experts from the University of the Philippines have projected that the Philippines’ cases may reach more than 85,000 by the end of July.

The total number of recovered patients has also increased to 24,502 by 144.

The case bulletin also showed that 15 more patients have died of the disease, bringing the death toll to 1,879.

“Two deaths have been removed after final validation. Moreover, we have updated the health status of five cases previously reported as deaths but after final validation were all recovered,” it noted.

“These numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation,” it added.

Don’t tamper COVID-19 test results

DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, meanwhile, warned the public that faking their COVID-19 test results may cause further transmission of the virus, causing the illness.

“Dapat maintindihan din ng mga tao na yung ginagawa nilang ‘yan might cause the further transmission of diseases if we do that ,” said Vergeire in a press briefing.

The Health official made the remark after reports that two employees in a printing shop in Quezon City were arrested last Thursday for allegedly faking medical certificates of COVID-19 test results.

Vergeire said that safety features in the medical certificates might be added, such as barcodes, to avoid this kind of illegal activity.

“With these kind of instances na nangyayari sa ngayon, kailangan mas mapaigting natin yung security nung mga dokumento natin like results ,” she said.
