DAVAO CITY - The number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) confirmed positive cases in Davao region breached the 800-mark on Tuesday after 45 additional cases were added to the list.
Davao region has recorded a total of 818 COVID-19 cases, 321 of which are still active cases.
The Department of Health (DOH) Davao Center for Health Development (DCHD) said, of these new cases, 38 were from Davao City, while two cases each were from Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental, and Davao del Sur. The DOH said one case was also recorded in Davao del Norte.
According to the provincial government of Davao De Oro, the two new cases they recorded included a 32 year-old man from Pantukan town, who was stranded in Manila and arrived in Davao region on July 4.
The other patient was a 45 year-old man from Mabini town who had a brain tumor. The local government unit said the patient stayed in Davao City for his medical operations. On July 9, the patient was referred to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) after he experienced difficulty in breathing.
After two days, he was admitted at the SPMC, however, he died on July 13. The remains of the patient were taken to Matalam town in Cotabato where it was buried on Tuesday, July 14.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Health Office of Davao del Norte said their latest case was that of a 15-year-old boy from Kapalong town who was a locally stranded individual (LSI).
The patient arrived from Manila on July 1 via a commercial flight.
Davao del Norte also recorded the recovery of an overseas Filipino worker from the disease. The patient was a 36 year-old woman from Tagum City.
The other local government units have yet to release profiles of their latest cases.
The DOH said there was still an ongoing verification as to how many of these new cases were LSIs and returning overseas Filipinos.
Four deaths due to COVID-19 were also recorded, bringing the total number of fatalities to 39. Two of these new cases are from Davao City and one each from Davao Oriental and Davao de Oro.
Davao region has recorded a total of 458 recoveries.
