COVID-19 cases among Filipinos overseas now at 1,741

By Betheena Unite The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 among Filipinos outside the Philippines reached 1,741 after 32 new cases were reported by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Saturday. Ten more Filipino patients have recovered while five more deaths were recorded. These figures brought total recoveries to 465 while the death toll abroad is now at 207. A total of 1,069 Filipino patients are undergoing treatment. According to the DFA, the new cases were recorded in the Americas, Europe, and Middle East. Cases of Filipinos infected with the coronavirus are scattered in countries in the Asia Pacific with 373 cases, Middle East with 368 cases, Americas with 485 cases, and Europe with 515 cases. The most deaths -- 118 -- were recorded in countries in the Americas, while the most number of recoveries were found in the Asia Pacific region. The DFA also said a review of trends of cases over the past month revealed that on average, the country receives daily reports of 11 new recoveries and six new deaths among Filipino nationals abroad. “It is our hope to see more recoveries in the coming days and eventually, zero fatalities among our people here and abroad,” the agency said in a statement.
