Fifteen new COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) confirmed cases, seven new fatalities, and two new recoveries among Filipinos in various parts of the world were recorded on Monday as the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) continued to monitor the health status of the Filipino communities abroad.
In its latest tally, the DFA said the new confirmed cases and recoveries were recorded in the Asia Pacific and Europe while the new fatalities were from the Asia and the Pacific and the Middle East regions.Â
To date, the total number of confirmed cases among overseas Filipinos is now 8,869; those undergoing treatment at 2,975; recoveries at 5,276, and total fatalities at 618.
The report showed that the Middle East remains to be the region with the most number of Filipinos affected by the pandemic while Asia and the Pacific has the least number in terms of infection and mortality rate.
Also on Monday, Philippine Ambassador to Doha Alan Timbayan disclosed that about 4,600 Filipinos in Qatar are seeking repatriation following the outbreak of the pandemic.
He said repatriation tare being lined up in coordination with the Qatar Airways, Philippine, the various agencies in both the Qatari and Philippine governments.
Apart from repatriating more than 900 stranded and distressed Filipinos in the last three months, Timbayan said they were also able to send home the remains of five nationals, two of whom are non-Covid related deaths.Â
When asked to clarify the actual number of COVID cases among Filipinos in Qatar, the DFA Assistant Secretary Eduardo Meñez said that Qatar has asked not to publicly share figures relating to the coronavirus cases.Â
