Coronavirus infection in PNP now at 902

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recorded more than 900 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection as it continues to deploy its personnel in the frontlines to prevent the spread of the dreaded disease.

PNP chief Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa said that of the 902 confirmed cases as of 6 a.m. on Monday, 479 of them are active cases while 414 were able to recover. The death toll in the police organization is nine.

Gamboa said Metro Manila has the most number of infected policemen with 354 followed by 248 cases by the Central Visayas.

“Incidentally, Police Regional Office 7 (Central Visayas) posted the 830 suspected cases that are awaiting confirmatory testing,” said Gamboa.

The province of Cebu, especially Cebu City, became a cause of concern in the past few weeks due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases. Cebu City was reverted to Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) on June 16 and was further extended at least until July 15.

Gamboa said that PNP National Support Units has 81 cases while the CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) has 69 cases of infected policemen.

Based on the PNP data, there are at least 1,148 policemen who are classified as suspected cases of COVID-19 infection while 726 others are considered as probable cause of COVID-19.

The PNP has been at the forefront of implementing quarantine rules and health protocols either through manning and supervising of checkpoints or conduct of patrol in various communities.
