Commissioner no more: Guanzon now a private citizen

Former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon flaunted on Thursday, Feb. 3 her newfound status as a private citizen after her retirement.

"Private citizen Rowena Guanzon reporting. Good morning," she posted on Twitter.

Guanzon just retired as commissioner on Wednesday, Feb. 2. She stated during the ceremony that she retires with a grateful heart to have served the commission and the country with unwavering support from the public.

In her seven years of service in the poll body, Guanzon mentioned that there was never a dull moment. She said however, that this is not the end of her public service career.

Guanzon retired along with former Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas and Commissioner Antonio Kho. Her retirement was one of the main reasons why she announced her vote and released her separate opinion on the consolidated disqualification cases of presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

Guanzon even fired back at critics who believed that she retired with a dud because as a leader, she failed to win over her members.

"It is not my job to win them over. It is my job to make sure that the resolution is released on time so that the parties can file an appeal all the way to the Supreme Court," she said.

Comelec is now composed of Acting Chair Socorro Inting, Commissioners Marlon Casquejo, Aimee Ferolino, and Rey Bulay. Inting will also preside over the First Division which is handling the disqualification cases of Marcos Jr.
