Churches locked down due to COVID-19 cases

By Christina Hermoso  Some parishes in Metro Manila had been locked down because some of its staff had tested COVID-19 positive. The Archdiocese of Manila said the Santisima Trinidad Parish in Malate, Manila has announced its temporary closure because some of its staff, including its parish priest, were infected. “We have decided to temporarily close our church and our parish office to stop the spread of the coronavirus disease. We are currently doing a contact tracing of all those we have come in contact with,” said a statement posted on the church’s Facebook page. The parish priest, in a statement said, he is currently recuperating in his room away from parish personnel who had all been placed under voluntary quarantine. The priest added that their cook is currently confined and recovering at the San Juan de Dios Hospital. The Manila archdiocese said that as of June 22, the parish has been in contact with its barangay head for coordination of protocols set by the government and the church. The parish had also coordinated with the Ministry of Health Care of the Archdiocese of Manila for medical needs and assistance. “We are asking for your patience, understanding, and prayers for this unfortunate event. Please pray for our speedy recovery and for us to be able to overcome this trial,” the parish priest said. In Quezon City, the Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish had also announced its temporary closure beginning June 25 due to a report that one of its parish staff had tested positive for the viral disease. “It is with deep regret that we announce the temporary lockdown starting today, June 25, of our parish church for at least two weeks,” said a statement posted on the parish’s Facebook page. The parish has scheduled the disinfecting of the church as well as the swab testing of all parish personnel. Despite the lockdown, the parish assured the faithful that they will continue with their online masses.
