Chinese gov't donates medical supplies to PH gov't; Amb. Huang welcomes arrival of Chinese medical experts

By Roy Mabasa The Chinese government on Sunday turned over a fresh batch of donations of medical supplies to the Philippine government, coinciding with the arrival of 12 Chinese medical experts who were dispatched to help the country amid the coronavirus pandemic. (DFA FACEBOOK / MANILA BULLETIN) (DFA FACEBOOK / MANILA BULLETIN) In his speech at the welcoming ceremony for the Chinese medical team, Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian said the latest batch of donations from Beijing comprises 300,000 surgical masks, 30,000 medical N95 masks, 5,000 medical protective suits, 5,000 medical face shields, and 30 non-invasive ventilators. The Chinese envoy noted that since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the Philippines in early March, China has been providing support and assistance to the Philippines "to the best of its ability.” Huang added: "Besides the Chinese central government, Chinese local governments, organizations, companies, and individuals have also extended a helping hand with huge amount of donations to the Philippine government and people." Prior to this new donation, China gave the Philippines emergency medical supplies such as testing kits, surgical masks, medical N95 masks, and medical protective suits. With regards to the Chinese medical team, that Huang said was dispatched "upon the request of the Philippine government," the ambassador said it is among the first three teams sent by the Chinese government to countries belonging to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Ha said most of the team members have had frontline experience in Hubei province where the novel coronavirus disease emanated. “I hope the arrival of this team will help the Philippines to improve its ability of epidemic prevention and control as well as diagnosis and treatment, so as to boost the confidence of the public in overcoming the COVID-19,” he added. The Chinese diplomat likewise assured the public that during this time of crisis, the Chinese government and people feel keenly for the health and safety of the Filipino people. “We will always stand together with the Philippine government and people to cope with the challenges and overcome the epidemic,” Huang said.
