In a statement, the Embassy said Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian spoke with Health Secretary Francisco Duque III over the phone to discuss the details of the cooperation in the effort to mitigate the spread of the virus that originated from Wuhan in Hubei Province.
According to Huang, the Chinese government will dispatch the Chinese medical expert team to the Philippines “upon the request of the Philippine government.”
The Chinese envoy explained that the main task of the medical expert team is to provide technical advice on epidemic prevention and control, as well as share their experience in treating COVID-19 patients.
In their conversation, Huang expressed his appreciation for the active role that Duque and the DOH played in the preparation of the arrival of the Chinese medical team.
Duque, for his part, pledged that the DOH would coordinate with the Embassy to make sure the work of the medical expert team goes smoothly.
While no specific date was mentioned, Philippines Ambassador to Beijing Jose Santiago Sta. Romana earlier said the medical team composed of Chinese doctors and experts on COVID-19 will be dispatched to Manila “soon.”
