Caritas releases P1-B assistance to poor in Metro Manila, nearby provinces

Around P1 billion worth of aid was distributed by Caritas Manila to poor families affected by the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

(CARITAS MANILA / MANILA BULLETIN) Caritas Manila used the funds for the door-to-door distribution of P1,000 gift certificates to over four million households within the greater Manila area, according to a CBCP News post. Father Anton Pascual, Executive Director of Caritas Manila, said the beneficiaries came from 633 parishes from the Dioceses of Cubao, Parañaque, Kalookan, Novaliches, Antipolo, San Pablo, Malolos, Pasig, and the Archdiocese of Manila. The priest thanked business groups who helped raise the funds but said more help is needed. “During this pandemic, let us to unite and help each other as one Christian community,” Fr. Pascual said. Aside from from the grocery vouchers, Caritas Manila has also been distributing “COVID safety kits” to poor families in Metro Manila to help protect them from the coronavirus disease. The safety kit includes alcohol, face masks, antibacterial liquid soap, Vitamin C, reusable gloves, liquid bleach, cleaning cloth, among others. Aside from the kit, the relief agency also provided food bags to poor families affected by the community quarantine.
