Caritas Manila appeals for donations to aid poor families affected by lockdown

Caritas Manila, the social action arm of the Archdiocese of Mania, continues to appeal for donations to help fund its Ligtas COVID-19 campaign that aims to help poor families affected by the enhanced community quarantine.

The funds will be used for the Manna food bags and Caritas Ligtas COVID-19 kits, which will be distributed to indigent families in Metro Manila. The social action arm has, so far, gathered more than P6 million in donations.
“Let us continue sharing our resources with the most vulnerable in the COVID-19 pandemic – the poor and the elderly. No one should be left behind as we fight COVID-19 with charity and bayanihan!” Caritas Manila said in a statement.
Caritas Manila is in the process of preparing the relief goods in partnership with the Social Service and Development Ministry of the Manila archdiocese.
The relief packs contain rice, canned goods, and noodles while the COVID-19 kits contain 70 percent solution alcohol, washable face masks, one liter of anti-bacterial liquid soap, reusable gloves, cleaning cloths, and vitamin C.
Novaliches Bishop Roberto Gaa earlier said the enhanced community quarantine will only be effective and properly observed “if the poor are assured of food supplies for their families.” Church leaders have also called on the faithful to observe 'bayanihan' (collective cooperation) and help in whatever capacity they can.
