The local government of Caloocan City has allowed the resumption of tricycle operations as Metro Manila shifted to the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) on Saturday, May 16.
Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan
(Mayor Oscar Malapitan Official Facebook page / MANILA BULLETIN) Mayor Oscar Malapitan on Monday reminded tricycle drivers to strictly observe the "no contact policy" by installing plastic shields and cash boxes where passengers can put their payment. Malapitan said that drivers are also required to have alcohol inside their vehicles and at the terminals, as well as to wear face masks and gloves. Tricycles with body numbers ending in 1, 2 and 3 can operate every Monday and Tuesday; those that end with 4, 5 and 6, every Wednesday and Thursday; those that end with 7, 8 and 9, every Friday and Saturday; and those that end with 0, every Saturday and Sunday. They should also follow the curfew hours, which means that they can only transport passengers from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Meanwhile, only one passenger is allowed on every tricycle and he or she should have a quarantine pass. Jay Bernardo, the head of the city's public safety and transportation management, said that the fare matrix remains the same: eight pesos for the first kilometer, then one peso for each additional kilometer. "Di namin binago fare matrix namin. Kung ano existing sa , yun din follow namin. Nagbigay lang consideration mga operator na half lang po ang boundary ng mga operators (We didn't change our fare matrix and just follow the existing. Tricycle operators just gave consideration to their drivers by only requiring them to give half of the previous amount of boundary)," he said.
