Butuan City to implement community quarantine effective Thursday

Crismundo BUTUAN CITY - The city government here will be implementing localized community quarantine effective midnight Thursday, March 19, in an effort to avert the spread of the dreaded coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Under the localized community quarantine issued by Butuan City Mayor Ronnie Vicente C. Lagnada in his Executive Order (EO) No. 19, that “home quarantine shall be observed in all households in Butuan City effective mid-night on Thursday, March 19, regulation of business establishments and mass public transport to conform with the guidelines set by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and prohibition of mass gatherings whether public or private”. Under the same EO, all religious leaders are also enjoined to suspend any religious gatherings while land, sea and air travel shall be restricted. Drivers, passengers, and travelers entering Butuan City shall be required to present valid IDs, address, contact number, and travel history and shall be checked for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 in accordance with the protocols and guidelines issued by Department of Health (DOH) while classes and school activities in all levels shall continue to be suspended, the EO issued by the city Chief Executive on Tuesday. All temporary visitors, whether foreign or local, in Butuan City have been advised to leave immediately after the issuance of this EO. All foreign and domestic vessels are also prohibited from entering the territorial waters of Butuan City during the effectivity of this order, except those carrying cargoes of food, medicine, and prime commodities, the EO also said. “All PUMs shall undergo strict home quarantine for not less than 14 days while PUIs shall be confined in accordance with quarantine procedures established by DOH,” the EO of the city chief executive added. The EO 19 will last until April 18, 2020. Meanwhile, the city government also ordered the strict implementation of protocols at all checkpoints established within the city borders. Police checkpoints have been set up in every exit and entry point in the entire capital city of Caraga region to closely check on residents and transients coming from neighboring areas and other parts in the southern island as a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Anyone entering Butuan City will be thoroughly checked the body temperature and anyone who will exhibit abnormal body temperature will be referred to the nearest health offices or hospitals for further medical assessment and recommendation. The checkpoints will be manned by personnel of Metro Butuan City Police Office (BCPO), City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, City Health Office, the Public Order and Safety Office and barangay officials. Barangay officials and the 86 Barangay Health Emergency Teams (BHERTs) are ordered to monitor their constituents for possible contractions of COVID-19.
