MALOLOS CITY – Through the Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO), the provincial government of Bulacan has appealed to the public to stop sharing fake news on the novel Coronavirus Acute Respiratory Disease (COVID-19) and avoid creating panic and fear.
The PHO-PH clarified that currently, there was no positive nor confirmed case of COVID-19 in the province of Bulacan, and that there was no reason to panic.
Annie Mendoza, Provincial Communicable Disease Control Program Coordinator, reported that, as of February 12, from the seven persons under investigation (PUI)s who arrived from China recently, three were already discharged after testing negative for COVID-19, the other three admitted are still waiting for the result while the remaining one person is under monitoring at home.
Dr. Jocelyn Gomez, PHO-PH head, said that spreading fake news in social media and text messages was not helping the province nor the country to address the threat posed by COVID-19.
“Kumuha lang tayo ng update sa mga opisyal na page ng DOH at ng PHO,” Gomez said.
According to the report, COVID-19 could be transmitted human-to-human through coughing and sneezing of an infected person, or close contact at home, work or health facility.
The PHO-PH has started using #NotoFakeNews and #BulacanNCOVFree for all their posts to encourage the public to be vigilant of the true status of the killer virus.
