In her report to BuCor Director-General Gerald Bantag, Corrections Superintendent Virginia Mangawit said the patient, who has a history of diabetes mellitus type 2, was diagnosed at the CIW infirmary with community-acquired pneumonia last Monday.
She was given a hospital referral and admitted to the Sta. Ana Hospital in Manila on the same day. Contact tracing has been completed and all medical personnel and other prisoners who had contact with the patient are now being tested for COVID-19.
“Ready naman ang CIW,” BuCor spokesperson Gabriele Chaclag told Manila Bulletin about the institution’s capability to handle COVID-19 cases.
The BuCor said there is no positive case in other prison and penal farms, including the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa.
“Rest assured that the lone PDL patient who is now confined at the Sta Ana Hospital is being attended to by our hospital frontliners,” the BuCor said.(With a report from Jeffrey G. Damicog )
