Army transports 102 stranded individuals to NAIA for homecoming

By Martin Sadongdong A total of 102 locally stranded individuals (LSIs) in Metro Manila are now returning to their home provinces after they were escorted by the Philippine Army (PA) to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City on Friday. (Philippine Army / MANILA BULLETIN) (Philippine Army / MANILA BULLETIN) Lieutenant General Gilbert Gapay, Army chief, said the LSIs have received their confirmed flight details after the military coordinated with various airline companies for their scheduling. "We hope for your safe travel as you return to your families, to your homes," Gapay told the LSIs before sending them off. The LSIs were temporarily sheltered at the PA Wellness Center in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. Aside from this batch, 52 more LSIS have been sent to their respective flights since the Army started accommodating them on June 13. A total of 408 LSIs were already assisted by the Army since reports of their ordeal surfaced last week. Some were left with no choice but to stay under a footbridge for days while waiting for their flight. Others have reportedly sold their personal belongings just so they can have money to buy food. The PA provided them with shelter at the PA Wellness Center, Army General Hospital (AGH) and specific areas at the Libingan ng Mga Bayani (LNMB). They were subjected to rapid testing and given free meals by the military. At least 47 more LSIs were being processed and will undergo an initial screening and rapid testing prior to their flight accommodation, Gapay said. The AGH was also attending to six pregnant LSIs and two others showing signs of stress, he bared.
