Año to stranded individuals: Don't go to airport if you have no confirmed flight

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año on Friday pleaded with stranded individuals to refrain from proceeding to the airport if they do not have any confirmed flights to their home provinces.

He explained that this only adds to the chaotic situation that the national government has to deal with as relevant measures are being taken to ensure the smooth travel of the individuals stranded in Metro Manila.
In an interview over GMA News, Año said some of the tickets bought by stranded individuals were fake.
“Once they are not allowed to enter the airport, the people chose to stay to try their luck in acquiring a flight back to their province,’’ he added.
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana backed Año, saying the government must control the onrush of individuals to the airport.
He said government resources are already being used to transport stranded individuals.
Earlier reports disclosed that the number of locally stranded individuals staying under the NAIA elevated expressway continued to increase.
However, assistance has trickled in from private individuals and groups after news circulated about their predicament.
