By Hannah Torregoza Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara has tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease or COVID-19, making him the third member of the Upper Chamber who contracted the disease. Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara (Senator Sonny Angara Official Facebook Page / FILE PHOTO / MANILA BULLETIN) “I regret to announce that today, March 26, I received my test result and it is positive for COVID-19,” Angara said. “I have been feeling some symptoms like mild fever, cough, headaches and general weakness,” Angara said. Angara assured that he has practiced strict self-quarantine since he took the test last March 16. “I have not been in contact with the public since taking the test last March 16,” he said. Angara, likewise, asked for prayers and also called for continued support to all those who are in the front lines of the battle against COVID-19. “I ask for your prayers that together we are able to pull through this tremendous challenge,” he said. “Let us continue to support all efforts to fight the further spread of the virus. Let us support our front liners on the streets, in the emergency rooms, as they are key to the effort. With hope, sacrifice, and unity of effort, we shall overcome,” said the senator. Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri was the first senator to admit he is COVID-19 positive despite being asymptomatic. Yesterday, March 25, Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III admitted that he is also positive for COVID-19. However, he earned public ire after admitting he accompanied his pregnant wife who was scheduled to deliver their baby at the Makati Medical Center (MMC) while still waiting for the results of his COVID-19 test. Pimentel claimed he was already inside the hospital’s premises when he received the information from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM). In a statement, Pimentel apologized and said he never intended to do any harm to anyone.
