Nearly 17,000 repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have been tested by the government for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) from May 2 to May 12, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Wednesday.
According to the DOTr, a total of 16,945 land-based and sea-based workers have been tested for the new coronavirus which causes the COVID-19.
Based on its recent data, the DOTr said that 2,147 OFWs were tested including the 1,020 in various quarantine facilities in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, 368 OFWs at the airport, and 759 OFWs at the Palacio de Maynila Testing Center.
The Sub-Task Group for the Repatriation of OFWs has been conducting the RT-PCR tests in various quarantine facilities since May 2. Among those who were tested were the 3,838 Filipino seafarers aboard cruise ships at the Manila Bay Anchorage, and the 2,510 OFWs tested by the Philippine Coast Guard medical personnel at the Palacio de Maynila Testing Center.
Meanwhile, at least 400 OFWs have been tested at the airport since May 11 before they were transported to their designated quarantine facilities.
"While waiting for the test results and the issuance of their quarantine clearances, OFWs are requested to remain in isolation and comply with the health protocols for their safety amid the COVID-19 pandemic," the DOTr said.
The Department also assured workers that it will coordinate their transport once the necessary clearances are issued to help them go home to their respective provinces.
