ZAMBOANGA CITY – A 94 year old coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patient died Tuesday, April 21, at the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) Hospital.
Zamboanga City Mayor Marie Isabelle Climaco reported that the patient, identified as ZCP-07, expired at the ZCMC, which is Region 9’s designated hospital for COVID-19 cases.
“It is with extreme sadness that we inform the public about the passing of ZCP-07, the seventh COVID-19 positive case for Zamboanga City. ZC07 is the 94-year old female of Veterans Avenue,” Climaco said.
“She passed away early dawn today, April 21 while confined at the ZCMC due to respiratory failure secondary to pneumonia,” she added.
She was the first COVID-19 fatality in Zamboanga City and Zamboanga Peninsula or region 9
At least three confirmed COVID-19 cases from this city have recovered at the ZCMC, and have been reunited with their respective families.
According to medical report, ZCP-07 did not have any travel history outside the city, and acquired the virus from local transmission,
Climaco said Zamboanga Task Force COVID-129 IN the city has not recorded any persons under investigation (PUIs) and persons under monitoring (PUMs) for the past weeks.
She said this could be an indication that the city was already recovering from COVID-19, that could lead to the scheduled lifting of the extended enhanced community quarantine on April 30.
