91 percent of Filipinos always wear masks when they leave the house, according to a survey recently released by YouGov in partnership with the Institute of Global Health Innovation at Imperial College London.

The London-based think tank surveyed 29 countries and territories between June 22 to June 28, examining preventive behaviors of different populations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Of the 29 countries and territories, the Philippines ranks second in terms of mask-wearing. Singapore placed number one, with 94 percent of its population wearing face masks outside their homes.

The survey added that only one percent of Filipinos do not wear masks outside their homes, two percent sometimes wear masks, and five percent frequently wear masks outside.

The study also revealed that 83 percent of Filipinos always wash their hands with soap and water, only 50 percent of the population avoid going outside to work, and 58 percent of Filipinos have the luxury to avoid using public transportation.

Meanwhile, the survey also found that only two percent of the populations of Denmark, Sweden, and Finland wear masks outdoors at all times. COVID-19 cases are reportedly decreasing in those countries.

In April, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the country had the highest number of COVID-19 cases among Association of Southeast Asian Nations because of "pasaway" (hardheaded) citizens.
