70 OFWs return home in Negros Occidental

By Glazyl Masculino BACOLOD CITY - A total of 70 repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) arrived at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (Bredco) port here on a Malasakit voyage this week. (Photo courtesy of Bacolod City Public Information Office / MANILA BULLETIN) Of the total number of repatriates, 16 were from Bacolod and 54 were from Negros Occidental. The 16 Bacolodnon OFWs repatriated from Manila have returned home on board M/V St. Therese of Child Jesus of 2GO Group last Thursday, and were immediately brought to one of the hotels in the city that will serve as their quarantine facility. According to the city government, they comprised the fourth batch of returning OFWs here. The repatriates will undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine and must be tested negative for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) before they will be sent home to their families. Meanwhile, Commander Jansen Benjamin, head of Philippine Coast Guard - Negros Occidental, said that nine Negrense OFWs also arrived here that day and will also undergo the 14-day quarantine. Last Wednesday, 45 others also arrived here via Malasakit voyage. These Negrense returning OFWs were all sent to the healing center in E.B. Magalona town for initial tests and medical assessment before they will be transferred to a hotel for quarantine.
