ILOILO CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is urging the remaining 68 local government units (LGUs) in Western Visayas region to complete distribution of cash aid for those affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

“We want our LGUs to finish the payout because the people need the cash aid,” emphasized Ma. Evelyn Macapobre, DSWD regional director for Western Visayas.
As of 8 p.m., May 11, DSWD found that only 65 out of 133 LGUs have completed cash aid distribution for its social amelioration program (SAP) despite several deadline extensions.
This translates to the release of P5.89 billion for 983,001 family beneficiaries in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod. It was only 85.2 percent of the region’s total target.
Macapobre reiterated that it was the LGUs responsibility to release the funding of SAP, which DSWD released to the LGUs.
