5,490 Filipino migrants already infected with COVID-19

By Vanne Elaine Terrazola Twenty-one more Filipinos abroad were infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported Friday, June 12. In its 4 p.m. daily update, the DFA said the new cases brought the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases among Filipino migrants to 5,490, from 5,469 cases recorded on June 11. Five new deaths of Filipinos from the Americas and the Middle East were also recorded by the agency, raising the death toll to 395. Meanwhile, a total of 2,369 Filipinos have recovered from the disease as of Friday. Most of the COVID-19 cases were recorded in 16 countries in the Middle East and Africa, with 3,398 so far. A total of 51 countries have recorded COVID-19 cases involving Filipinos. “As we continue to face this pandemic, the DFA, along with its 94 Foreign Service Posts, assures its continued service and assistance to the Filipino people in these trying times, wherever they are, whenever possible,” the agency said.
