According to BuCor, 300 members of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and Philippine National Police Special Action Force (SAF), and 200 BuCor personnel underwent COVID-19 rapid tests on May 7.
“COVID-19 rapid test is well-suited for use in settings where trained laboratory technicians and specialist equipment may be limited and will also yield a faster result compared to PCR based kits,” said BuCor.
BuCor Director General Gerald Bantag said, “The cooperation of our colleagues, personnel or inmates, is one of the keys to overcome the crisis that we are facing today.”
As of May 5, BuCor’s last update, there are 54 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the bureau. One inmate at NBP died of the disease while one employee is infected.
There are also 49 COVID-19 positive inmates of the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) including two deaths. The remaining 47 are at the NBP quarantine facility. Three CIW employees also tested positive for the virus.
